AlphaCharts PM Explorers Fund
I’ve been writing a fair bit on gold for the past month. However, my posts so far have been about when to buy, as opposed to what to buy. This post is on the latter.
In a gold bull market, the miners tend to have bigger moves than the metals. And more junior companies have even more upside than the senior ones.
While we can get a lot of upside by simply holding GDXJ and SILJ (junior gold & silver miner ETFs), the names in these ETF’s miss a segment of the gold sector that has potentially the most upside: exploration companies listed on the Toronto Venture Exchange (TSXV).
There are roughly 125 precious metals mining stocks on the TSXV. Using my approach of buying leaders, I have screened this list and found 20 that have strong uptrends.
Holdings
Here is the leadership board showing the 20 I like:
For comparison, here is the leadership board showing the components of GDX (senior gold miners). We can see the venture stocks I screened have much higher momentum and hence potential upside.
Implementation
As these names are volatile, I am allocating just 0.5% to each (and 10% of my portfolio to this AC Explorers Fund).
I have been purchasing these together as a group along with the popular mining ETFs, as opposed to timing each stock individually.
However, I will be adding/removing names to this list over time using charts. In a follow-up post, I will share charts for each of these 20 names.
Heads up
It’s almost been a year since I started this blog and I hope you’ve been learning & profiting from the work I openly share.
I am a real, full-time trader and I use the same research I share here to manage my own portfolio. A lot of work goes into writing these posts and ensuring my analysis stays on top of market trends while remaining simple & objective. At some point in the future (not sure when), I will be writing for paid members only.
If you haven’t already, please see the ‘about me’ page for details about my background, my trading approach and two podcast appearances.
Thanks for reading.
